When Kokoro convinces Milky Holmes to disguise themselves as the Gentlemen Thief Empire, will they have any more luck living a life of crime?
What They Say
Angry at her cronies taking a vacation, Kokoro decides to trick Milky Holmes into impersonating the Gentlemen Thieves Empire in order to draw them back. This backfires, however, as Milky Holmes always manage to do the reverse of what they were intending!

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
This week, Milky Holmes turns in an episode that’s much less manic than usual, but no less satisfying. All of the character development, two dimensional as it is, that’s been built up over the past two seasons allows the character based humor, rather than silly gags, really shine.
The episode starts with Kokoro being cranky that she’s stuck with a desk full of paperwork. Always full of herself and her talents, but seemingly no less lazy than Milky Holmes, she’d like to foist it off on her underlings, G3, who are nowhere to be found. Kokoro phones them up and each explains to Kokoro that she approved their vacation requests for the day. Unable to revoke their vacation, she decides to ruin their day in the most frustratingly obnoxious way possible: By bringing Milky Holmes along.
Meanwhile, Milky Holmes has decided to teach classes at their new Holmes Academy until Henriette decides to return. They gather up a group of neighborhood kids, from whom Nero collects tuition in candy, and promise to teach them how to be detectives. Lab instruction Mori Artie is nowhere to be found, so the Holmes girls struggle to keep the kids attention until Kokoro arrives on her police Segway. She promises to teach Milky Holmes how to be great detectives, and the naive idiots accept.
To learn negotiation kills, Kokoro sics Milky Holmes on the food truck where Tsugiko is working. They beg for free samples, and when Tsugiko can in good conscience give out no more, they begin harassing the food truck’s other customers. Tsugiko attempts to placate them by giving them a giant bowl of raw sponge cake batter, which they proceed to drink up with straws (ew!). This exhausts the supplies for the day, and Tsugiko has to shut down her friend’s food truck. Days ruined: 1.
Kokoro’s second lesson is combat training, and Milky Holmes are dropped off at Hirano’s dojo. Milky Holmes abandon cordelia, slam the windows shut and turn off the lights. In darkness, Cordelia’s powers activate, and soon the entire dojo is razed to rubble. Days ruined: 2.
Finally, Kokoro has Milky Holmes learn infiltration skills by going undercover into Saku’s mahjong joint hangout. Milky Holmes’ insistence on using kids’ tiles, and Nero’s temper tantrum after losing ensures that Saku’s winning streak is broken. Days ruined: 3.
G3 aren’t entirely stupid, so they quickly figure out Kokoro is behind all of the mischief. They call her up and tell her that they won’t be coming back into work unless it’s an emergency, like if the Gentlemen Thief Empire re-appears. So, naturally, Kokoro dresses Milky Holmes up as the Gentlemen Thief Empire and has them steal a briefcase from some suspicious looking gentlemen. Once G3 see Milky Holmes in costume, the chase is on.
As is expected for a group as unlucky as Milky Holmes, when they try and be bad, they end up doing good. The young idol singer who is to debut at the Yokohama International Detective Pavilion is trapped in the case, and Milky Holmes is able to free her before G3 is even able to piece together what’s going on. Grateful, the idol allows Milky Holmes to include a message to Henriette in her debut video, a rather heartwarming conclusion to an episode that exploited Milky Holmes’ obnoxiousness.
There are a lot of great touches in this episode: Saku’s wall of lollipops at her home is a great gag, and so is her later Candyholics Anonymous meeting, where the blurry line between cigarettes and lollipops is joked about. Milky Holmes’ pathetic New Holmes Academy and the haste in which they’ve invited Mori Artie into their circle is as heartwarming as it is imbecilic. But the best bit has to be Milky Holmes play acting as the Gentlemen Thief Empire, including Nero’s catchphrase as Stone River “Do you know ero?”, an obscure call back to episode 1 of this season.
The episode ends with Mori Artie stealing a Pandora Fragment from the museum, and her cheerfully explaining that both Sherlock and herself are needed to re-awaken its magical power. The stage is set for a glorious showdown between obnoxious idiots, and I for one can’t wait.
In Summary
Milky Holmes doesn’t go for broke with crazy sight gags in this episode, but instead allows jokes about all of the characters’ natures over the past two seasons blossom gracefully. It’s a wonderful payoff for fans of the series, and it leaves me hopeful for the quality of the writing in the final three episodes of the season. You can tell the team of JC Staff just loves working on this show, and it’s infectious.
