After getting a little bit of serious material in the previous episode detailing the problems involved with Madoka and her piloting of the Vox and all that’s happened with it, Lagrange now shifts to silly stuff for the most part. While the bad guys are off vacationing a bit themselves, complete with their usual dress uniforms being worn which certainly makes them stand out (well, maybe not when next to a guy in a maid outfit), they try to bring in a bit of seriousness to events by talking about the problems they face in going up against Madoka. The vacation time for them is kind of cute in a way, especially since they get so into the idea of where they are, with the view and the room itself, but for the most part it wants to deal with their thoughts on the long, coming battle.

While this group is off doing their thing, traveling around a bit and getting some down time, the girls back at school are working on an upcoming festival. So yes, it’s that kind of episode, sort of. While there is talk about it, it doesn’t dominate it in the way you’d expect. And for the most part it doesn’t utilize much of the cast either, keeping most of its focus on Madoka when you get down to it. There is a cute crossover moment midway through when Madoka comes across one of them but they aren’t able to figure out who the other is in the brief time they’re together. But a lot of the episode is just pure fluff when you get down to it, beyond having the group get a little more familiar with normal humanity.
In Summary:
I can’t think of few episodes this season that just bored me as much as this one did. It’s not bad per se, it’s just so dull and uninteresting. The problem with the show over its run is that it’s been unfocused in areas it needs to be, particularly with the supposed bad guys, and has instead been filled with a lot of fluff. So when you get an episode about the guys at this stage, it’s near impossible to really get into it because you don’t know who they really are and you really don’t care. Few shows have pushed me to this level of disinterest that it’s surprising in some ways. I was really looking forward to Lagrange based on the promotional video, but the further it’s gone, the more I’m certain that I’ll finish out this season and ignore the follow-up one in the summer. I still have hopes they can somehow wow me in the final couple of episodes. And chances of that seem exceedingly low.
